West Bengal SSC Teacher Recruitment Scam: In the West Bengal teacher recruitment scam case, the Calcutta High Court on Thursday made a strong comment, saying that if teachers appointed by unfair means cannot be dismissed, then it would be better to abolish the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC).
Justice Vishwajit Basu made the observation while reviewing an earlier order of Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay of the same court, which had ordered immediate termination of services of illegally appointed teachers. The commission argued that the teacher in question has been in service for more than three years and no complaint of offense has been lodged against him so far.

On this, Justice Basu told the commission that illegal appointments cannot be tolerated at any cost. If they continue as teachers, the future of the students will be affected, he added. They cannot continue as teachers. They may be provided with alternative appointments.

However, Commission’s counsel Sutanu Patra informed the court that since there is no connection between the WBSSC and the state government in this matter, it is not possible to appoint these teachers to any other department. The next hearing of the matter will be held again on November 18, 2022.
