What are the new provisions of reservation?

In the proposed reservation, local people of Scheduled Caste (SC) community will get 12 percent, Scheduled Tribe (ST) 28 percent, Extremely Backward Classes (EBC) 15 percent, Other Backward Classes (OBC) will get 12 percent quota and other reserved 10 percent quota has been fixed for EWS except for categories of people.

so far this was the situation

At present, ST gets 26 percent reservation in Jharkhand, while SC gets 10 percent and OBC gets 14 percent reservation. Reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) by Jharkhand has been adopted by the Supreme Court of India recently. In the last assembly elections, increasing the reservation in the state was an election promise of all mainstream parties, including the ruling UPA’s allies JMM, Congress and RJD.

BJP MLAs protest

However, the bill was passed amid protests by BJP legislators, who demanded a debate on it. BJP MLAs have accused the JMM-led government of making unnecessary haste to gain political mileage by raising a sensitive issue.
