Why celebrate Diwali?

This festival is of 5 days (Dhanteras, Narak Chaturdashi, Amavashya, Kartik Shukla Pratipada, Bhai Dooj) hence it starts from Dhanteras and ends on Bhai Dooj. While lighting lamps, bursting firecrackers or meeting festivals with each other, we often think that why is Diwali celebrated? What is its importance and what is the story behind it?

The most popular belief is that when Lord Rama came back to Ayodhya city after killing Ravana, the townspeople had cleaned Ayodhya and lit the night like a bride with the light of lamps. Since then, it has been a tradition to light the lamps of lights to dispel the intense darkness of Kartik Amavasya.

Do you know: Diya is a symbol of wisdom or inner light, which brings inner peace and fights the darkness.

Do you know: Through various legends told over the years, the Diwali festival is a celebration of the victory of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance.
