The Government of India has issued rules for giving jobs and promotions to sportspersons. Last week, all ministries and departments have been asked to give jobs or promotions to sportspersons only under these rules. In case any mistake or omission is noticed, the same may be brought to the notice of DoPT. These rules will apply to civil servants of all other central departments except Railways, services under the Department of Atomic Energy, erstwhile Department of Electronics, Department of Space and scientific and technical services under Defense Research and Development. As per rules, players will also get three promotions. The central government has fixed 65 games for the job.

Players with this qualification will get government jobs

A sportsperson who has represented the state or country in national and international events. A sportsperson who has represented the University and Inter-University in the competition. Provided that the match is organized by the Inter University Sports Board. A sportsperson who has represented his/her school team in the National Games. These games should be organized by the All India School Games Federation. Any sportsperson who has won the National Award in Physical Efficiency, under the National Physical Efficiency Drive. Apart from these, the concerned applicant will have to fulfill all other qualifications, such as age, education and experience, etc. for the government job.

Merit player can be appointed at any time

The players who fulfill the qualification will be appointed on the posts of Group C and D. Here, according to the rules fixed for recruitment, the appointment will be given. No appointment will be made on Group A and Group B posts by direct recruitment. Ministries and Departments of the Government of India can appoint meritorious players at any time. Exemption from the recruitment process may be granted. It should be noted that in case of direct recruitment, reservation of any kind should not exceed fifty percent of the total posts.

Rules for issue of sports certificate

However, these rules keep changing from time to time. At present, players will get the opportunity of direct recruitment only under the prescribed rules. If there is an international competition, then the certificate should be issued by the secretary of the concerned sports association. In such a case only one certificate is required. If there is a national competition, then it should have a certificate issued by the secretary of the federation at the national level or the secretary of the state association of the concerned sport. If there is an inter-university tournament, the certificate is issued by the Dean Sports. Similarly, the rules for national competitions have been fixed at the school level. Here the certificate should be issued by the director or additional secretary in the state’s education department, who is overall in charge of sports. Physical Efficiency Drive should have a certificate issued by the Secretary, Ministry of Education, Government of India or the officer who is overall in charge of such activities.

These players will get preference for the job

First priority will be given to those players who have represented the country in international competition after the approval of the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports. After this, the next preference will be given to those players who have represented their State/UT in the National Championship at Junior or Senior level. In these games, it is necessary for the player to win the medal in the first three places. Senior and junior competition, i.e. medal in both these categories, then the player who won the medal in the senior competition will get priority in the job. Next preference will be given to medal winners of Inter University Competitions. Here also it is necessary for the player to bring medals in the first three places. The next priority will be given to the players who bring medals at the state school level in the National Games. After this, the preference that has been decided will be given to the sportspersons who have brought the National Award in the National Physical Efficiency Drive.

These players will get preference in promotion

These players can also be given relaxation of maximum five years in the age limit of the job. There will be ten years relaxation for SC and ST category players. Out-of-turn promotions will be given to sportspersons who have made outstanding achievements in sports. His rank can be upgraded. That rank will remain upgraded only until that player goes on scheduled promotion, resignation or retirement. The first preference in promotion will be given to those players who have won a medal in the Olympic Games. Second preference will be given to medal winners of Commonwealth Games. After this, the number of players who won medals in the Asian Games will come. Further in this order of preference are players who have won record breaking medals at world championships or national games. Sports quota will allow a maximum of three ‘out of turn’ promotions during the entire service.
