Railways Announces Pay Grade Upgradation : Railways has announced pay grade upgradation for around 80,000 field officers and employees. Under which all the Supervisor category officers of Railways will get a chance to reach higher pay grade equivalent to Group A officers. Now soon everyone will get an additional salary of Rs 2,500 to Rs 4,000 per month on an average.
These field officers and staff were facing stagnation in their jobs for a long time. Now with the announcement of the new provision of the Railways, their almost one and a half decade old demand of improving their pay scale will be fulfilled.

Railway Minister announced the provision

Announcing the new provision on Wednesday, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that there was stagnation in the supervisory cadre of the Railways at Level-7 and their scope for promotion was negligible. For the last 16 years, there was a demand for promotion of supervisory cadre. The only scope of promotion was selection in Group ‘B’ examination against 3,712 vacancies. Now provision has been made for 50 percent people to go from pay level-7 to level-8.

Railway Minister told who will get the benefit

The Railway Minister said that a provision has been made to promote 50 percent people in non-functional grade from Level-8 to Level-9 in four years. The move is also expected to benefit 40,000 supervisory grade employees like station masters, ticket checkers, traffic inspectors who are called field level workers.

Rs 2,500 to Rs 4,000 per month additional salary

The hike in pay grade means that everyone will get an additional salary of Rs 2,500 to Rs 4,000 per month on an average. This will increase the wage bill by Rs 10,000 crore. The Railway Minister, however, said that the move would be fiscally neutral, as it would be mainly offset by the savings that the Railways have made on its diesel bill. This will benefit Supervisors of Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, S&T Traffic Chemical and S&T, Metallurgical, Stores and Commercial departments.

The result of AIRF’s effort

Whereas, AIRF General Secretary Shiv Gopal Mishra said that as a result of a strong demand from the All India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF) along with the Ministry of Railways as well as the DoPT and MoF (DOE), for the hike in the pay scale of Supervisors from the old grade pay. The proposal of the Railway Board in this regard to increase from Rs 4,600 to Rs 5,400 has been approved by the Finance Ministry.
